Previous review below. The program has the perfect interface, and workds on occasion. But it keeps crashing. Open it up and do the same thign again and it will work, then a few minutes later crash again. Crash crash crash. I am going to look for another program. ----- his program is good. Buying it from the App store is a big improvement over the old licensing method, which seemed to forgot its registration and get screwed up too easily. However the program currently has a bug. I was trying to convert a bunch of .caf files to .mp3, and it would crash. Then I changed it to convert to .aif files, and it worked, but only sorta. The files were somehow non-typical. Some programs would play them some would not. Once I opened the files in quicktime and exported them as .aif they were fine, but this defeats the purpose of a batch converter. I have no idea what is wrong with the aif files it was creating. Bias Peak hates them. LiveCode hates them. But Quicktime and Soundtrack Pro opened them fine and convert them fine. However, overall, this program is still good and has saved a lot of time in the past. The app store version is a good buy.
I’ve been a long-time user of this app and believe I paid for it when earlier versions were actually released. Now the developer has said that he hasn’t had time to support the app to upgrade it to newer codecs and OS’s. So I’m bummed that it’s still partially working but crashing often when doing multiple tracks and/or repeated tasks. Ihad a case where I needed to convert several m4A tracks back to AIFF to store them. It worked at crawl only with a single track at a time, essentially, crashing after each track. No one home to fix, report or obtain work-arounds. Support thread yields a Facebook/Twitter/Github pages with no help. So Sound Converter will continue to sit there and we’ll find alternatives. Use at your risk, be prepared for disappointment.
I took my computer into Best Buy and this program was among the several that I puchased from the App Store that was eating up lots of memory space, and sending back keystroke information to off site. Once I uninstalled this, my computer was significantly faster and the lag problems I had vanished.
Won’t even convert .wav from 24 to 16 bit without crashing
After a bit of toying around with the interface (which, I admit is fairly complicated for the average user - or even a tired audiophile as in my case) this application saved the day. In order to convert my FLAC files into Apple Lossless successfully, I simply chose Format "m4a" and Encoding "alac". I set everything else to "Same as Source" and everything worked including tags, audio playback, and importing the files into iTunes. A splended application worth the $10, as it even tagged properly on my entire library - a task at which XLD failed miserably and left iTunes rather unorganized. Thank you to the author!
I tried 3 other programs. This program is best. Intuitive simple interface. Broad range of choices. I needed to convert mp3 and m4a for a recipient who could only process those as created on my garage band and iphone voice applications. I did it in seconds for many files. When I was not happy with the wav upper frequency range, it was so simple to simply choose a higher bit samping rate until it sounded adequate. This has so many features at a reasonable price.
Does what it says. I was using Final Vinyl to manually convert from aiff to m4a, which did a 10x reduction in disk space using AAC, mpeg-4 sdsm, mpeg-4 odsm. This app converted to m4a with only a 2x reduction in disk space. So, to get what I wanted, I had to convert to mp4, then from mp4 to m4a. But since its automated, I could do a whole directory, then come back later and do it again. Saved me a lot of time over manually converting lots of files.
more audio formats than i could ever know existed and it does exactly as promised. do not hesitate to buy this if converting audio files is a routine part of your life.
With the absence of audialhub, this app is the next best thing. Sound converter is just as good and has a very small footprint. Very fast and efficient. Sound converter gets the job done.
Ive used this app for years, and its always worked. For any sound I need to convert to any file format... it just works! Its awesome!
Bought this to convert .voc to different format to play on mac….didnt work. Waste of money, now I have to figure how to get my $10 back.
SoundConverter keeps getting better with each update. Its by far the best audio converter for the Mac.
i bought this based on reviews and i needed to convert some FLAC files to ALAC, this program did convert the songs but did not keep song information when converting, and worst of all the quality was greatly reduced almost unlistenable unfortunatly. no i have an app ill never use and 10 less dollars.
Ive been using this program for a long time, several years before it was available on the App store. If you are serious about computer audio it is the best. The only complaint that I had was that now it is in the App store, my previous version is not supported. Aside from that, this is great. Number one use for it? Converting FLAC to AIFF or AAC, but it has come in handy for plenty of other uses as well.
If youre looking to convert FLAC to ALAC, this is not the program for you. All tags stripped, and audio quality sounds like a bad AM radio. Ill second the question below, how do I get my money back?
I installed this release after much internal debate. I bought the non-App Store version a while ago and that developer abandonded it. This version supposedly would use the multiple cores on my new system but it just sat there. Errors in the error log didnt say much. The new developer exchanged a few emails but didnt offer to create a debug version like the old developer did to solve a problem. After a month of waiting, I just asked for my money back. Guess he didnt want to work that hard for my $10.
This use to be a great program for converting FLAC to ALAC. But since the last 2 updates its either not converted or converted and made the sound quality almost unbearable. I feel scammed...
Wrote to developer about a .caf to .wav bug in previous version. It was fixed a week or two later, and I was notified via email - which I appreciated. Thanks, 5/5
Worth every penny! FLAC to ALAC is working and I cant tell a difference between source and the output and thats exactly how it should be.
